My works on paper express idiosyncratic humor and absurdist pathos. Some works pull figures from old movies and television shows, other works feature the recurring characters based on antiquities, kitschy collectables, illustrations, diagrams, dogs and cats and kids. Fragmented narratives drive these pieces. The loose marks build a sense of poignancy in the drawings and the figures seem to try on different personas in his adventures, just as I experiment with marks, materials and narrative. The same unrestrained and impulsive gestures that create the work, construct this psychological and emotional world. As Voltaire stated, “doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd”.
